Alongside the Wrench icon, another rare distinction appeared during the Trials Evolution era: the TF icon, short for True Fan.
This symbol was displayed next to a player’s Gamertag in the Xbox leaderboards, and served as a recognition of outstanding dedication to the Trials community.
Unlike the Wrench, which was awarded for creative excellence in track building, the TF icon honored passionate players who went above and beyond for the game or its community — often outside of pure gameplay.
Philosophy and intent
As described by Antti Ilvessuo (former CEO of RedLynx, for Trials Legacy) :
“True Fan was something that you could not get just by making good tracks. It was meant to be something like : you’re just awesome. Meaning, you helped the game, community, and/or players in some surprising way.”
Early recipients included players who created influential YouTube content, supported the community through moderation, tutorials, or mentoring, or otherwise helped the Trials ecosystem grow in unexpected and selfless ways.
The idea was to celebrate genuine contribution and spirit, not just visibility or skill.
Rollout & issues
Just like the Wrench icon, the TF badge was introduced in a somewhat improvised way, which caused some friction:
There were no official criteria or public guidelines.
Some deserving members were left out, while others felt the selections were inconsistent.
The lack of communication led to drama and disappointment within the community.
As Trials Evolution matured, many other players arguably earned the right to carry the icon — but no follow-up process was implemented.
Eventually, the TF icon was retired quietly and was never reintroduced in later titles like Trials Fusion or Rising.
Legacy
Though short-lived, the TF icon remains a unique historical marker in Trials Evolution — a quiet thank-you to the players who embodied the heart of the community.
Visible directly on the leaderboards, it served as a badge of honor, and still holds nostalgic value for longtime players who remember the era when being a True Fan really meant something.
