📍 Event : Community revival and relaunch

Overview

On October 16, 2026, Somnic and Aurimas announced the revival of Trials Frontier, making the game available to everyone again through a community-driven project.

The revival brings several improvements and new features, including working ghosts, enhanced leaderboards, native controller support, and new ways to play. The project aims to make the game accessible to both returning players and newcomers while giving the community additional tools to compete and create content.

The announcement was accompanied by a presentation video titled Trials Frontier Is Back, along with a dedicated website providing downloads and further information.

New Features and Improvements

The revived version introduces numerous additions and improvements:

  • Improved cross-platform leaderboards: Enhanced leaderboards designed to support competition across platforms.
  • Working ghosts: Ghosts are functional, allowing players to compare their runs with recorded performances.
  • Updated camera angle: An adjusted camera perspective.
  • Native controller support: Players can use controllers without relying on external workarounds.
  • Per-bike leaderboards: Separate in-game leaderboards for each bike.
  • Diamond medal: A new medal tier for players to pursue.
  • Track editor: A community creation tool that allows players to build their own tracks. The editor is still relatively primitive, but the developers encouraged experienced builders to experiment with it.
  • Community track world map: A dedicated map for discovering and accessing tracks created by players.
  • Custom ninja bike: A special bike intended for ninja-style gameplay.
  • Back-wheel-only tracks: Challenges focused on riding using only the rear wheel.
  • Low-gravity mode: An alternative gameplay experience with reduced gravity.
  • Infinite-fuel story mode: A version of the game that allows players to progress through the story without fuel restrictions.
  • Quality-of-life improvements: Various additional changes intended to improve the overall experience.
  • Easter eggs: Hidden details and secrets for players to discover.

Tracks and Gameplay

The revived version features approximately 367 relatively short tracks. According to the announcement, the game offers a different style of Trials gameplay, without tire glitches and with numerous time-saving techniques for players to discover and master.

The combination of short tracks, competitive leaderboards, and working ghosts gives players opportunities to improve their times and compete for world records. The per-bike leaderboards also provide additional goals for players who want to master different bikes.

The inclusion of a track editor and a dedicated community track map opens the door to user-created content, although the editor’s capabilities remain limited compared with more advanced track-building tools.

Community Bounties and Future Events

To encourage players to return and compete, the organizers announced two cash bounties for world-record achievements on the main leaderboards:

  • $50 bounty: For the first person to achieve their first-ever Trials Frontier world record on the main leaderboards.
  • $25 bounty: A separate bounty for a player who had already achieved a world record previously.

The organizers also announced plans for regular in-game community events, with prizes. These events are intended to give players ongoing reasons to compete after the initial revival.

The community was encouraged to spread the word, try the new features, and experiment with the track editor.

Future of the Project

The announcement also hinted that further work related to the wider Trials franchise was underway and should not be too far away. No additional details were provided at the time.

The revival therefore represents not only an opportunity to revisit Trials Frontier, but also a sign of continued activity within the wider Trials community.
