Context

Ahead of Summer Games Done Quick 2016 (SGDQ), Trials Fusion player and track creator BlazeJP launched a community-level building contest to create custom Ninja tracks for a live showcase during the charity speedrunning marathon. GDQ events are among the most viewed gaming livestreams each year, raising over a million dollars for charities like Doctors Without Borders.

The goal: design Ninja tracks with a fun or nostalgic twist that would be used in a speedrun demo during GDQ 2016.

Objective

Create one or more Ninja tracks (difficulty 1–3), inspired by retro games, cartoons, or pop culture, to be played live during GDQ 2016 in a speedrun showcase with commentary.

Suggested themes

  • Retro games: Sonic, Mario, Donkey Kong, The Lion King, Batman

  • Cartoons and anime: Simpsons, South Park, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Itchy & Scratchy

  • Popular universes: Marvel, Star Wars, Minecraft

  • Games featured in previous GDQs or nostalgic shows

Tracks were encouraged to include “Games Done Quick” elements in their visuals or structure.

Rules

  • All tracks must be tagged with [GDQ] in the track name

  • Required difficulty: Ninja Level 1–3 only

  • Multiple submissions allowed; teams permitted (but only one prize per team)

  • Contest open to all platforms except Xbox 360

  • Tracks could be funny, creative, stylized, or technical

  • Deadline set for June 19, 2016, two weeks before SGDQ for runners to practice and prepare commentary
